Overview

The Bruker Field Microbiology Application Specialist (MAS) supports all microbiology platforms and associated ancillaries within the Microbiology and Diagnostics Division. The primary focus, the Bruker MALDI Biotyper, is a revolutionary product which uses mass spectrometry to produce rapid, accurate and cost effective microorganism identifications. The Field Microbiology Specialist is responsible for sustaining and growing Bruker MALDI Biotyper business in the markets addressed. This position encompasses the territory  MD, PA, DE, DC and VA.

Responsibilities

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING

  • Primary responsibility is to conduct MALDI Biotyper CA new system installations and customer application trainings in one visit when possible. The MAS must be trained and certified by Bruker on installation and application for the MALDI Biotyper CA System. This certification program is an intense program which ultimately ensures that a trainer holds baseline knowledge of the Bruker MBT platform
  • Conduct on-site and factory-based application trainings for new and current customers for all other MALDI Biotyper protocols.
  • Proactively contact current customers quarterly, in a respective territory, to provide product and service information, product updates and to resolve any current customer issues. This may include but is not limited to new product launch information, software updates, library updates, hardware or software troubleshooting, and basic or advanced Biotyper training needs.
  • Generate new sales leads for Bruker’s products and services in the Clinical market by educating potential customers on all microbiology products.
  • Communicate and develop strong relationships with the field sales teams to relay pertinent information regarding current and future customers. This information can include but is not limited to pricing, product development suggestions, and customer support satisfaction.
  • Develop a plan to successfully execute and implement a strategy to fulfill customer needs. The success of this plan will be monitored by both the VP of MBT and the MAS Manager via quarterly tracking.
  • Educate and certify new MAS, sales teams, and any internal colleague that may need training.
  • Develop connectivity and workflow solutions to existing susceptibility and laboratory information systems for MBT customers. This area of development is crucial as Bruker moves forward into the clinical microbiology markets. The MAS works closely with the MBT Software Development and any vendors of a future potential product.
  • Plan and execute local workshops and user meetings on a cycle determined by MAS management. Actively participate in the planning and execution of local, regional, and national shows.
  • Adhere to company policies for expense control and meeting expense budgets.
  • Provide monthly lead generations and customer training metrics to the MAS Manager.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Minimum 3-5 years of experience.
  • Deep and focused knowledge of the clinical, food, pharma, environmental or veterinary microbiology laboratory.
  • Proven ability to promote company products and services to a variety of prospects and customers and secure sales commitments.
  • Strong verbal, written, and technical presentation skills, including MS Office with advanced Excel applications proficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple tasks and deliverables.
  • Must be self-motivated and willing to take ownership of projects assigned by the management team.
  • Ability to travel on a routine basis and maintain a current Passport/ VISA as required for international travel. Occasional weekend travel will be required. The MAS must plan and execute individual travel per company travel guidelines and within expense budget objectives.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Able to manipulate small hand tools.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology preferred

Bachelor of Chemistry with focus on Microbiology or Cell Biology may be considered.

 

Computer Skills: MS Office with advanced Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Medical Technologist background would be a plus. Candidate must be certified, by Bruker, on the MALDI Biotyper CA System before installing or training customers.

 

Other Skills and Abilities: Strong knowledge of clinical microbiology coupled with a energetic personality, flexible, business development and relationship management capabilities. A positive attitude is a must.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • Travel schedule will vary and will depend on sales activities and instrument annual goals. Each installation and training will take up to 4-5 days to complete.
  • Office days are permitted, and scheduling will be at the MAS discretion.
  • The installation process may require lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, and squatting and may also involve working in dusty and dirty laboratory environments.

Comments: Individual must meet standards established for performance in 30, 60, 90 days of initial hire for continued employment with Bruker
