    Responsibilities

    New opportunity based in Billerica MA for a General Accounting Manager to lead the Bruker Support Center supporting the Americas Region. A key member of the Finance and Accounting organization, this position is primarily responsible for managing the BSC Americas General Accounting function, including leadership and development of a high-performing team.

    • Serves as the principal advisor to the Finance Director Americas on matters related to general accounting financial services provided by the Business Support Center (BSC) – Americas Region.  General Accounting financial shared services may include, but are not limited to, general ledger accounting, cash accounting, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, fixed assets accounting, account reconciliations, sales and use tax reporting, governmental survey reporting, lease accounting, support SEC reporting, lead the monthly close, SOX 404 compliance for assigned controls, prepare entity analytical reports on business results and legal entity financial submissions for consolidations. Remains current with economic and business trends in the life sciences industry.
    • Drives continuous process improvement with standard, global practices that improve the quality and productivity of financial shared services activities.  Continuously identifies ways to leverage the company’s financial shared services model by centralizing and streamlining activities, leveraging technology whenever possible.  Leads initiatives to implement improvements. Stays current with external trends and best practices to drive continuous process improvement of the company’s financial shared services function in the Americas.
    • A subject matter expert regarding general accounting and a SAP key user. Stays current with changes in the business to determine impact on the financial services organization.
    • Customer focused: understands the business and is responsive to the needs of operating business partners. Incorporates the voice of the customer in the organization’s activities.  Monitors and communicates customer satisfaction and service levels.  Implements improvements, as needed.
    • Direct responsibility for maintaining the appropriate internal financial control.  Ensures the consistent practice and application of the company’s accounting policies and GAAP, with attention to areas requiring judgment and estimation.  As needed, provides clear and balanced recommendations to resolve important accounting and finance matters requiring estimation or application of judgment.  Is accountable for the accuracy of the general ledger in accordance with US GAAP and Company policies.
    • Uses fact-based analysis and judgment to identify and communicate areas for operational and financial improvement within the business or function.  Plays a leadership role in making the function more efficient and effective.
    • Leads or supports initiatives to successful completion, capable of enlisting resources and managing teams of employees from different functions or organizations.
    • Works closely and communicates effectively with corporate partners in Corporate Accounting; Financial Planning & Analysis; Tax; Treasury; HR and IT to ensure that corporate information and support needs are consistently met.
    • Leads or supports initiatives to successful completion, capable of enlisting resources and managing teams of employees from different functions or organizations.
    • Works closely and communicates effectively with corporate partners in Corporate Accounting; Financial Planning & Analysis; Tax; Treasury; HR and IT to ensure that corporate information and support needs are consistently met.
    • Works and manages effectively across the company. Promotes effective lateral communication and coordination across groups, both internal and external to the Finance function, to improve efficiency and achieve desired results.  Ensures that important company and functional messages, including priorities and goals, are cascaded throughout the organization. Ensures team members clearly understand their roles and are motivated to achieve goals and objectives.
    • Maintains a high-performing General Accounting organization.  Evaluates talent using desired finance competencies, and effectively implements the company’s performance management practices. Actively develops finance talent and contributes to the development of future finance leaders.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance
    • 7-10+ years of Accounting and Finance work experience with 3 years recent management experience and demonstrated success in a variety of business environments. CPA/MBA desirable.
    • Current knowledge of General Accounting financial services and best practices and trends. 
    • Advanced MS Office proficiency with strong working experience and knowledge of both SAP ERP and BPC.
    • Current knowledge of US accounting regulations and Company accounting policies and practices with unquestioned integrity in the application of such standards.
    • Advanced business acumen and judgment, and current knowledge of the company’s markets/products, operations, and life sciences industry trends with ability to think strategically about business issues.
    • Excellent at workload prioritization, resource management, and project management.  Develops and manages processes that are effective and efficient.
    • Effective at driving change and managing teams to achieve desired results. Capable of articulating a vision or plan, gaining organizational commitment to action, and managing through others to achieve results.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal), and presentation skills.  Maintains effective external industry and professional network.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex, global environment, and capable of gaining commitment and coordinated action for initiatives.  Maintains effective working relationships across the company, at the group, divisional, functional, and corporate levels.
    • Demonstrated track record of effective performance management and developing staff and future leaders.
    • Possesses critical competencies such as: People Management, Collaboration & Teamwork, Influence & Communication, and Drive for Results, Business Insight, Project Management & Process Improvement, Decision Making, Critical Thinking Analysis and Finance Expertise.
    • Valid Driver License in good standing, issued by resident state required.
    • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status required.
    • Maintain a valid passport with flexibility for domestic and international travel.
    • May be required to pass security clearance investigation.
