    Under general direction from the BPEN Mechanical Engineering Supervisor. primary responsibilities will include the building and updating of custom design modules

     or custom features for the Optical Metrology Tools.  Additional tasks required include creating BOMs, Engineering Change Orders, cost analysis, procedure creation, building and testing. Working with the US engineering team to create new products.



    Analyzing, designing, developing/modifying, testing, and debugging design enhancements and features for the Optical and Stylus Metrology Tools (90%):

      • Design, build and test engineering specials with prototypes and concepts according to schedule
      • Develop designs into a Bruker level product. (based on industry standards, patents, proprietary data structures)
      • Work together with local engineering team members as well those abroad to share ideas and execute project
      • Complete documentation, and installation/maintenance procedures;
      • Provide support and assistance with cost estimates/quotations based on requirements
      • Support production team and field engineers in resolving technical issues.
      • Analyze, develop, test, and document any design enhancements


    • Work on hardware troubleshooting/upgrades
    • Possess good interpersonal and people management skills
    • Maintain and present status reports on scheduled projects
    • Other duties as assigned.




    Employee has to be able to easily and quickly switch between assignments, and often handle several assignments at a time.  The person must be able to use a computer for design and use hand tools for prototype assembly.



    • Must be proficient in 3D CAD modeling, preferably SolidWorks.
    • Experience in motion control
    • Excellent problem solving skills
    • Works precisely and pays close attention to details
    • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge.  Excellent skills with hand tools.
    • Advanced organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Strong aptitude in mechanical product development, engineering with an emphasis in mechanisms, gears, motors, and precision positioning equipment. Knowledge or experience with metal fabrication techniques (CNC, machining, welding, etc.) is preferred.
    • A thorough working knowledge of Windows 2000/XP/7;



    Requires 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering design and development. Qualified candidates should possess a minimum of BS in Mechanical Engineering Design. Experience in software and electrical engineering is also desired. Experience with hardware interfacing is a plus. Should be hard working, team oriented, bright, creative, cooperative, and exceptionally good at problem solving
