    JPK provides microscopy instrumentation for biomolecular and cellular imaging, as well as force measurements on single molecules, cells and tissues. JPK has joined Buker in July 2018, bringing in-depth expertise in live-cell imaging, cellular mechanics, adhesion, and molecular force measurements, optical trapping, and biological stimulus-response characterization.

    Currently we are located at Berlin-Templehof and will move to Berlin-Adlershof in early April 2019.


    • Ongoing development of a multi-threaded object-oriented API for instrument control
    • Implementation of this interface in C++ on an embedded processor, including the communication and data transfer with a Linux host PC
    • Development of new measurement modes for the instruments as well as handling of scientific data
    • Close collaboration with the instrument developers and applications specialists


    • Degree in computer science / informatics or an equivalent discipline (e.g. physics, mathematics, electronics)
    • Software development experience in hardware control
    • Experience with multi-threaded, real-time / embedded development, preferably Embedded Linux
    • Excellent object-oriented design skills and knowledge of C++
    • Use of standard unix developer tools and source code version control (preferably Git)
    • The ability to plan and produce high quality software to a time schedule
    • Strong communication skills and a team-oriented working style to be able to understand the requirements of the development and applications specialists and translate them into new developments
    • Proficiency in English

    Additional relevant experience (not required but beneficial)

    • Scientific software development, data processing or control of measurement instrumentation
    • Experience with agile development, design patterns and refactoring
    • Java development (the host PC on the other side of the API runs a Java desktop application)
    • Camera control and / or image processing
    • Proficiency in German
