    Summary of responsibilities

    This position is responsible for the worldwide support of NanoIR microscopy platform. NanoIR system is a combination of an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) with a tunable Infrared laser. Each instrument is typically assembled to a specific customer order. The job includes verification of compliance to system specifications, accomplishing IR laser alignment procedures, AFM Calibrations and performance verification, as well as troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical problems and on the spot repairs to ensure the orders are shipped on time. The individual collaborates with manufacturing, test, R&D and software departments to improve product quality and processes. The individual is also responsible for worldwide installations of new microscopes and customer training on their operations, service and maintenance of existing microscopes, remote customer support via e-mails and telephone. This opportunity requires an individual who is self-motivated, passionate about technology, works well in a team environment and is interested in creating an outstanding customer experience. The candidate must have a strong work ethic and a willingness to accept responsibility.

    Duties of the position include the following: 

    • QC/QA of AFM, IR laser and combined AFM/IR and SSNOM microscopes
    • Complete standardized tests on AFM/IR and SSNOM systems
    • Calibration, and rework of products to ensure on-time completion of customer orders
    • Troubleshoot systems electronically and mechanically during testing
    • Interface with manufacturing, application and R&D teams for microscopes performance verification
    • Collaborating with assemblers and manufacturing engineers to correct and improve procedures
    • Microscopes preparations for shipment to customers
    • Provide customer support via email and telephone
    • Travel to customer sites for installations, service or training
    • Other duties as assigned



    Desired Skills and Experience

     A successful candidate will have: 

    • AS/BS/MS in Engineering, Electronics, Physics, Material Science, or equivalent experience.
    • Background in scanning probe/atomic force microscopy or FTIR preferred
    • Mechanical design and electronics aptitude
    • Detail oriented and self-starter attitude
    • Ability to excel in a fast-paced customer-focused team environment
    • Previous customer service and support experience
    • Excellent customer interaction and communication skills

    Physical/Environmental Requirements:

    • Basic mechanical abilities required. Must be able to lift ~50 lbs.
