  • Overview

    The Market Product Manager’s (PM) main responsibility and function is to focus on the market-oriented, customer-centric management of all products and solutions that are used in the different market segments of a division. In addition, for certain market segments, the PM is also responsible to focus on the needs and the growth of certain assigned market segments.

    Since existing products of one division can be used in markets managed by a different BBIO division, the PM is also responsible for those products marketed other divisions (the major user principle applies). The PM effectively manages a significant portfolio of products, services and solutions for maximum profitability and business growth impact. The PM develops and leads a market-driven future state of a portfolio and effectively executes (adapts) that plan in a dynamic and pro-active manner.

    The PM understands and manages entire product lifecycle (existing and future) from long-term planning to new product development to managing current products to discontinuing or migrating products. The PM optimizes revenues and margins for his product portfolio by managing the product mix and maximizes GM, as well as achieves his targeted vitality rate.


    • Product Portfolio Management, including accountability for profitability (COGS/GM) of the product line as well as for the product development project as a whole and managing corrective measures for all products of the assigned product portfolio
    • Product Life Cycle Management, including accountability of the stage gating process and corrective measures for maturity, functionality and business performance of all products of the assigned product portfolio
    • Owns the Go-to-Market process for new products or upgrades to existing products, requiring the creation of the appropriate go to market strategy and its execution to the proper target markets, the creation of the accommodating marketing launch plan, campaigns, and creation/maintainance of marketing collateral
    • Establish a uniquely differentiated solution offering with an attractive and competitive total cost of ownership compared to competitive analytical methods and to competing companies
    • Balances technology leadership with “easy to use”, “easy to integrate” and adoption gains with a strong focus on customer’s value chain benefits and Customer Total Cost of Ownership. Enrich value proposition (TCO) for value chains in EPR & TD-NMR for AIC Markets
    • Creates new winning concepts with customers, ensuring by close interaction with internal organization and/or partners their ability and commitment to deliver
    • Product Innovation Management, including product scouting, IP strategy and collaboration management
    • Interfaces with development, production and manufacturing to develop new products or enhance existing products or product lines. Recommends product program development or enhancements as a result of customer and/or sales force feedback
    • Creation of Product Requirement Documents (PRD), including “Use Cases” and “Design for Service” requirements as well as Lean Business canvas for new product developments
    • Leading the divisional R&D for tailored product, application and methods development
    • Leading the divisional R&D for customer-specific product development
    • Has partial accountability of Business Performance (Gross Margin, Return on Investment) for EPR & TD-NMR in AIC Markets. Product Vitality Rate – 3y: 25 – 30% of revenue from new products, time to ramp up new solutions, effective increase of adoption rate, customer satisfaction/loyalty


    The candidate requires the following qualifications:

    • Minimum of 3 years professional experience in Product Management
    • Relevant technical expertise in the fields of applications / methodology of the assigned portfolio, advanced degree preferred
    • Excellent knowledge and professional experience on product portfolio management
    • Excellent knowledge and professional experience on product life cycle management
    • Proven track record in building a product portfolio with sustainable YOY growth (top and bottom line)
    • Proven track record in building a market leadership with designed product portfolio
    • Ability for world-wide travelling up to 30-40%
    • Good knowledge in SAP, Office and Product & Project Management Tools (BPS)

    The candidate requires the following skills related to product management:

    • Excellent knowledge on the methods and technologies used in the product portfolio management. The PM can communicate with R&D and TPM on the same level about product concepts and realization
    • Profound understanding on project- and product- P&L calculations
    • Excellent knowledge on use cases, applications and technologies of the product portfolio
    • Deep understanding and insight of end-to-end value chains in EPR & TD-NMR for AIC Markets
    • Good knowledge on use cases, applications and technologies of products and solutions that are not offered by BBIO in that market
    • Track record of disciplined and successful (business perspective) product management
    • Profound understanding and experience in the R&D product development process incl. scrum and agile development
    • Profound understanding and experience in lean business innovation and lean development processes
    • Profound understanding of the operations process
    • Profound understanding of the budgeting and P&L processes
    • Excellent communications skills
    • Good English language skills
    • German language skills are beneficial
