    Job Responsibilities:

     

    1. Supervision of the Applications Department of Bruker JV UK.
    2. Develop, maintain and manage processes and procedures relating to the function of the applications department.
    3. Support Product Marketing Management (PMM) in review and approval of product specifications.
    4. Final review, approval and release of all customer demonstration reports.
    5. Assist as technical resource in the creation and maintenance of technical documentation and publications.
    6. Plan and perform customer demonstrations, host customer visits where necessary.
    7. Support PMM with all Applications related New Product Introduction (NPI) and Product Life Cycle (PLC) activities.
    8. Provide scientific expertise, support and training when required.
    9. Prepare and present management reports for Quarterly Management Meetings.
    10. Foreign travel on occasion is essential. Typically 5 – 10%. It is not envisaged that foreign travel would exceed 15 – 20%.

     

    Duties:

     

    1. Supervision of the Applications Department of Bruker JV UK
      • Perform annual appraisals, set objectives and monitor performance of Applications staff members according to Bruker Performance Management System
      • Prioritise and organise workload of staff members
      • Identify training needs and organise relevant training of staff members
      • Assist Site Manager and Director of Product Management in preparation of annual strategy, planning and budgets.
      • Plan and coordinate all customer demonstrations
      • Actively participate in Management, Product Development and Applications meetings and activities.
      •  
    2. Develop, maintain and manage processes and procedures relating to the function of the applications department including:
      • Establishing and maintaining safe working practices on Applications demo tools
      • Customer Demonstrations
      • Applications Testing
      • Site Inspection Testing (SI)
      • Final Acceptance Testing (FAT)
      • Monitoring of demo tool performance
      • Applications training courses (Customer and Field Applications)
      • Applications quality management systems and processes relating to ISO9001:2015
      •  
    3. Support Product Marketing Management (PMM) in review and approval of product specifications.
      • Review and approval of applications related customer specific acceptance test specifications
      • Development and maintenance of standard acceptance test specifications
      •  
    4. Assist as technical resource in the creation and maintenance of
      • Marketing material in support of PMM activities
      • Applications training material and courses
      • Applications bulletins, white papers and publications
    5. Final review, approval and release of all customer demonstration reports.
      • Technical review of all customer demo reports
      • Final release of all customer demo reports
      • Dissemination of learning throughout the global applications team
      •  
    6. Plan and perform customer demonstrations, host customer visits where necessary.
      • Demonstrate performance of equipment and applications to customers
      • Writing demo reports
      • Presenting demo reports to customers via web conferencing or in person for live demos
      •  
    7. Support PMM with all Applications related New Product Introduction (NPI) activities
      • Responsible for delivery of all Applications NPI activities for new products
      •  
    8. Provide scientific expertise, support and training when required.
      • Publications and white papers
      • Support of field applications
      • Provide training courses for Field Applications Engineers
      •  
    9. Prepare and present management reports for Quarterly Management Meetings.

      • Report on the current status and any issues facing the applications department
      • Monitoring and reporting of Applications Department performance according to agreed KPIs
    10. UK and Overseas travel is essential
      • Attend and present at exhibitions and conferences
      • Customer visits in support of Sales and PMM activities
      • Customer training
      • Customer escalations

    Qualifications

    Competencies:

     

    A master’s degree or PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Physical Chemistry or related subject is expected. Experience of X-ray characterisation of materials is a distinct advantage; alternatively, experience of other materials characterisation techniques such as electron or neutron diffraction and reflectivity would be useful.

     

    Ability to apply expert knowledge of X-ray scattering techniques to the analysis of semiconductor materials.

     

    Ability to communicate effectively with customers, research partners, members of the Applications Department and with others at all levels within the company.  Good report writing and presentation skills.

     

    Computer literacy – A working knowledge of current Microsoft operating systems and Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), experience with programming and systems interfacing.

     

    Organisational competencies – Ability to prioritise and progress a number of clearly defined tasks in parallel, collate relevant data and report them in a clear and concise manner.

     

    Personal skills – An ability to work in a team or take on individual responsibility as required.

     

    Motivations – A strong drive to ensure assigned tasks are completed efficiently and on schedule.  A willingness to be creative.
