Overview

As a Manufacturing Quality Engineer you will be the primary quality interface for new and existing products. You will design, develop, and execute quality assurance and control systems.   Use your expertise and judgment in implementing a wide variety of quality concepts, practices, and procedures.  You will contribute to product and manufacturing process design, as well as the methods for verification and validation of product to ensure adherence to company and customer requirements.  You will work towards the prevention and/or resolution of product and manufacturing process non-conformance.  You are well versed in working with Contract Manufacturers (CM) and Component Suppliers.  You will lead teams to ensure products are designed and built to Bruker’s high standards of quality and performance.  You will evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Bruker’s world leading Atomic Force Microscopes (AFM).  You will collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Bruker’s manufacturing and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Bruker’s AFM integrate and perform at the highest level, leading to the best customer experience possible.

As a Manufacturing Quality Engineer in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary group, you will be responsible for using your creativity and wide range of engineering experience to develop and evaluate solutions to challenging engineering problems.  You will support  New Production Introduction (NPI) and Released Products to lead Process Improvements, FMEA’s, and DOE’s.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
  • Prepares inspection plans based on drawing requirements, and compares manufacturing instructions per drawing requirements.
  • Devise sampling procedures and design and develop forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
  • Develop and implement methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material, and devise methods to assess cost and responsibility.
  • Perform as chair-person for Material Review Board (MRB). Manages assigned Defect Material Reports (DMR) to ensure forms are complete prior to closure.
  • Participate in or lead continuous improvement projects to eliminate scrap and reduce rework operations.
  • Work with operations management to establish, implement and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Provides input on relevant In-the Box Quality (IBQ) and Out of the Box Quality (OBQ) data to design teams in the early stages of NPI projects to ensure known quality and performance issues with existing product platforms are not transferred to new designs
  • During manufacturing process and product design reviews, ensure that related quality considerations are well defined and documented in quality and inspection plans.
  • Participates in or lead root cause analysis and implementation of corrective action for process related concerns
  • Analyze customer complaints and other quality escapes, and drive corrective or preventative action in response.
  • Ensure timely resolution of Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCAR) for assigned suppliers.
  • Define inspection processes using knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and inspection tooling/gauging concepts.
  • Participate on the Change Control Board (CCB).

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite tools
  • Ability to think analytically and produce accurate analysis from measurements, while applying good judgment to conduct assigned responsibilities accurately and effectively.
  • Proficient in root cause, corrective and preventive action programs.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply GD&T and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Experience explaining technical issues and influencing product and process design change with results/data, working with other engineering teams to arrive at solutions.
  • Experience in a similar, highly engineered, low volume, high mix, capital equipment environment that includes mechanical, electronic, and software composition.
  • Ability to work and drive process improvements with minimal supervision and train others.
  • Work independently, strong team player, detail oriented, organized and hands-on.
  • Project Management Experience with proven successes.
  • International travel may be required ~6wks per year. Actual travel duration and frequency will depend on project requirements.
  • Ability to work in Clean Room Environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable in continuous improvement, safety improvements, use of KPI metrics, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE).

 

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates should have a Masters plus 3 years of experience in related field or a BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, or Industrial Engineering plus 5 years of experience in related field.
