Responsibilities

Actively leads the activities of the TSOM electrical and system engineering team. Works to take customer requirements and convert them to system specifications including software and hardware for tribology, nanonindentation, stylus and optical metrology products. Works hands-on with functional groups within engineering to design complete systems or components, software and hardware. Establishes metrics and evaluates final results of system design and test to system performance. Ensures that proper documentation, such as test specifications and procedures, is provided to the appropriate functional area. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

 

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:

Will supervise local system engineers, electrical engineers and program managers.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Manage the system engineering team. Assign resources, set objectives and priorities for projects as needed to fulfill business unit goals.

Design and specify hardware for the system. Oversee system level debugging for motion control, feedback control as well as system noise analysis.

Participate in forward looking design and feasibility studies for new products and new technologies.

Work cross-functionally as to ensure DFx: Design for reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, test, cost, etc.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work on system hardware troubleshooting of new products and upgrades

Model and analyze designs using PSpice.

Maintain and present status reports on scheduled projects

Performs engineering assignments related to design and analysis of mechanical systems.

This position is located at the San Jose, CA site.

 

PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

While performing their duties, an employee must seat, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to operate computer equipment, manufactured equipment and small hand tools.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficient with OrCAD/Cadence Allegro
  • Strong communication, verbal, and writing skills, proficiency in documenting the plans, designs, and solutions.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Works precisely and pays close attention to details
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and knowledge
  • Must be a self-starter with ability to set goals and achieve them with minimal supervision.

 

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

B.S. in Engineering, Physics or Applied physics with 15 + years of experience in system design and increasing responsibilities supervising a team. Should be hard working, team oriented, creative, cooperative, and good in problem solving.
