Hardware Engineer – R&D

 

Location: Milan, Italy (Hybrid – 2 days/week remote)

 

Position Overview: We are seeking a Hardware Engineer to join our dynamic R&D team. This role is focused on the design and development of advanced electronic systems, as well as firmware and embedded software for next-generation analytical instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to R&D projects involving the design, development, and validation of electronic hardware, firmware, and embedded systems
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including ASIC and detector designers, mechanical engineers, and software developers
  • Interface with internal stakeholders such as Product Managers, Production Engineering, and Operations to ensure alignment across development stages
  • Support the continuous improvement of existing products and the creation of innovative solutions for emerging market needs
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and document electronic systems and components
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies relevant to electronics and embedded systems

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in analog and digital circuit design (schematics and PCB layout)
  • Proficiency with tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or similar ECAD platforms
  • Experience with embedded systems programming (e.g., C/C++ for microcontrollers)
  • Solid understanding of signal processing, noise reduction, and data acquisition principles
  • Ability to read and interpret datasheets, technical standards, and schematics
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficient in English (written and spoken)

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge Altium Designer tools.
  • Experience in FPGA development (e.g., VHDL/Verilog)
  • Familiarity with X-ray or Gamma-ray detection systems or other scientific instrumentation
  • Experience with laboratory testing and instrumentation (oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, etc.)
  • Knowledge of thermal and mechanical constraints in electronics design
  • Experience in programming of Microcontrollers.
  • Basic Knowledge of communication interfaces (I2C, SPI, USB, TCP/IP).
